notifyDataSetChange not working from custom adapter

Change your method from

public void updateReceiptsList(List<Receipt> newlist) {
    receiptlist = newlist;
    this.notifyDataSetChanged();
}

To

public void updateReceiptsList(List<Receipt> newlist) {
    receiptlist.clear();
    receiptlist.addAll(newlist);
    this.notifyDataSetChanged();
}

So you keep the same object as your DataSet in your Adapter.
