Doing this on your own is actually quite a lot of work. For the sole purpose of regenerating your custom image sizes I would recommend using this plugin: AJAX Thumbnail Rebuild It allows you to loop through your Image Library and regenerate the different image sizes that you selected.
To anyone who faces the same issue, the problem was caused by WP Smush. Once we deactivated it, images were uploaded within seconds. We use nginx and gzip is doing the necessary compression anyway. Kind Regards

This filter only accepts strings for mime types. It also already has support for webm, mp4, mpeg, ogv, and ogg. I think you can remove everything except the line for SVGs. I don’t think this is possible. Watermarking the audio with an audio editing software takes a process that ‘WordPress’ cannot simulate. It’s advisable you do the watermarking before the audio file is uploaded.
