Your first two rewrite rules do not end with $, which indicates that the URL should stop there. Conditional variables are based on the main page query ($wp_query). If you want is_home() to be false, then you need to manually set it to false ($wp_query->is_home = false) or override the main query such that it’s not true anymore. After browsing all my dashboard, the solution turned out to be simple: Navigate to: Dashboard -> settings -> permalinks For some reason “Custom structure” was activated. I simply had to choose “Post name” instead. Now all my links look as they should.

This happens in redirect_canonical(). You can disable that function with: remove_action(‘template_redirect’, ‘redirect_canonical’); But be aware it does a lot more. Too much for my taste … So there might be side effects.
