Do you have the settings set to an option your hosting provider doesn’t allow? Or maybe you don’t have the .htaccess configured correctly to allow the plugin to work as required. Did you try the default or “automatic” set-up to see if the error is generated?
WordPress already caches feeds to an extent, but for better caching install one of the caching plugins. E.g. W3 Total Cache has the option to cache RSS Feeds.

There’s actually an option in Types to hide a post type, and for child posts it may well default to “off.” Additionally, you should be able to edit the child post type from the parent type. Or is something actually breaking here?

Sigh. Ever humbling servers and sites are. The problem was with being logged in – the cache message shows up when using a browser where I’m not logged in. “Problem” solved.
